This painting was sold to the School by Frank E. Schoonover. It was used as an illustration for Walter Camp's "The Mystery of Rowing" published in The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine, July 1910. As per the Catalogue Raisonnee (see note following): "Schoonover visited the University of Pennsylvania gym on February 22, 23, and 24, to photograph rowers on the rowing machines. He also took photographs and sketched in the University boat house and then spent twenty-eight days completing this illustration and the companion rowing illustration [Schoonover day book] #411."
