Barrett Simpson '89 graces the cover of this issue of the magazine as she is performing a dance interpretation of Peter and the Wolf during arts weekend. A beautiful tribute by Bill Amos to long time St. Andrew's master and math teacher, Howard Schmolze, who recently passed away. Headmaster Jon O'Brien writes a tribute to newly retired couple Don and Mary Dunn. Holly Whyte '35 becomes the first trustee emeritus at St. Andrew's. Hume Horan '51 is appointed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia by President Reagan. John Lyons interviews Hick Rowland '58 about his career as a docking pilot on the Delaware River. Gillian Davies '81 tells us about her teaching in a refugee camp in Thailand and includes many photos of this time. Assistant Headmaster for Student Life Tad Roach announces a new student activity called Form Projects. The Around Campus section includes the following exciting activities: Aili Zheng '87 is looking forward to a summer tour of the U.S., faculty member Mark Green's recent art exhibit, Todd Perry '88 takes part in the Constitutional Convention, history teacher, Lindsay Brown is taking a year's leave to become a member of the U.S. Olympic Rowing team, spanish teacher Julieta Torres-Hunt offers an aerobics class, chaplain Simon Mein appointed as a clergy delegate to the National Episcopal Church convention, several students participated in the annual Olympics of the Mind competition, and after 35 years of service, Calvin Davis retires. Marcia Hindle, parent of Michael '88 and Desh '85 writes of the concert choir's tour of Germany. SAS joins other eastern boarding schools in a program to recruit black and hispanic students, PREP FOR PREP 9.
